GRANTS PASS — The Medford Mustangs broke open a deadlocked ballgame with seven runs in the sixth inning to defeat the Grants Pass Nuggets in American Legion AAA baseball Friday.
Medford (6-1) rapped four of their 12 hits in the sixth, including a two-run double by Darin Marsh, to break away from 2-2 tie.
Brandon Zanni, Aiden Horsley and Rowan Amann had consecutive singles to begin the inning.
Gavin Schmidt drove in three runs for Medford, and Marsh was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs. Zanni and Horsley each had two hits, Jace Miller knocked in two runs and Tanner Douglas, Ankeny and Amann each scored twice.
Eli Westrick allowed three hits in six innings for the pitching win. He allowed both runs, which were earned, while striking out 10 and walking two.
Schmidt pitched a perfect seventh with two strikeouts.
